Last Friday (November 10), Bethany Care Society announced that they will no longer be accepting new resident applications for a supportive living program in Airdrie.

Shelley Rolfe, Adminstrator of Bethany Airdrie, explained that Arbor Manor, a supportive living program that has operated in Airdrie for 30 years, will slowly be phased out.

"For the current residents, they will remain with us here and receive the care that they are currently receiving until such time that they require a higher level of care," said Rolfe.

As other supportive living accommodation options have come to Airdrie, Bethany has found it can no longer remain competitive in the local marketplace, prompting the move.

"The decision was made based on the lack of financial viability of the program, and [Airdrie does] have newer supportive living type of accommodations available to seniors who wish to live in Airdrie."

Rolfe explained that Bethany Airdrie's long-term care centre will not be affected by the change.

"There's no impact at all on our long-term care side, and the supportive living program will continue with our current residents."
