Over $5000 was raised for the Airdrie Food Bank this year by the campaign 'Fill the Fire Truck' at the Canada Day Parade.

For the 4th consecutive year, the Airdrie Professional Firefighters Association (APFFA) was collecting non-perishable food donations.

140 bags of food were collected as well as $503.30 in cash donations. In total, the entire value of purchased food came to $2030.

Tom Jukes, Airdrie Firefighter and member of the Firefighters Association, said that the Airdrie Professional Firefighters Association matched the cash donations on the parade route.

"It was our best year ever, raising over $5000 in both cash and food collected. We collected just over $500 on the parade route in cash donations, which was matched by the Airdrie Professional Firefighters Association with a $525 donation."

With summer months typically at their lowest for food donations, Jukes said the food banks' shelves were starting to look bare.

"Their shelves were pretty low, and they were very happy when we dropped off. The Food bank and us have partnered up for a couple years now and it is a very good relationship and we're very happy that we are able to help them."

In addition to the donations at the Parade, the 'Fill the Fire Truck' sponsor, Mattamy Homes also donated $2000.
