Today is 3/14, otherwise known as Pi Day.

Students at Bearspaw School will have a unique celebration that focuses on math and giving back to the community.

"We sell pieces of pie for $3.14," said teacher Jennifer Saville., "We have an assembly where all the kids come down, and students choose to enter and they recite as many digits of Pi as they can."

The common area of the school will also be decorated with all the digits of Pi, and the school is trying to bring in 314 cylinders of food to donate to the local food bank. All the money raised from the pie sale will be donated to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Saville said this is the first year the money has gone to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, as it has benefited other organizations in the past

"Through the year, we support globally, nationally and locally, and there were a few teachers who were passionate about the Heart and Stroke Foundation, so that's where we decided to put the money."

Saville said this unique celebration is special for students at the school, who get to celebrate learning and giving at the same time.

"They're excited about math, excited about the assembly, and then I think they are also learning about giving to others, so when they bring in their cylinders and they bring in their money to buy their piece of pie, they're learning all about giving to other people."
