If you're going to shiver for three straight days, you may as well do it for a good cause,

Three days of battling the elements came to an end today for four Airdrie firefighters who took part in the Fourth Annual Rooftop Campout for Muscular Dystrophy.

The four went to the roof of Boston Pizza on Thursday and spent three days soliciting donations for the cause.

And, it would seem, they're pretty good solicitors.

Firefighter Secretary Matt Elgie says, although all the money hasn't been added up just yet, it looks like this year's total may surpass the record first year of the event when $16,500 was raised.

"This year we believe we're very close.  The guys on the roof were doing some tallies just before they came down and they think we're closing in on that toal and we're hoping we're going to eclipse that record this year."

If they do, that will put the four year total at over $60,000.

One of the campers, Damon Johnson, said the conditions were at times trying.  "Once we got settled into our tent and got a little bit of sleep it wasn't too bad,"

The camp out participants, Johnson, Cassidy Kinley, Todd Munro and Kyle Mclaughlin, all said the community support was overwhelming, and despite the conditions, the camp out was a lot of fun.

And, after a weekend on the roof, it's right back to work for the firefighters.

Elgie says, "These guys donated their time from their four days off, so they decided to spend their weekend on the roof raising money for Muscular Dystrophy and tomorrow they're all back on shift and working their regular jobs.  I think they're all pretty excited to get a shower and a slightly warmer meal, But they're pretty happy."
