Banff-Airdrie MP Blake Richards and Arpan Khanna the representative from GlobalMedic made a delivery just in time to get the Airdrie food bank off to a great start in 2021.

Since the beginning of 2020, GlobalMedic has distributed over 750,000 lbs of food across Canada. GlobalMedic is a registered Canadian charity that has provided disaster relief and life-saving humanitarian aid since 2002. On December 30th, 2020 they delivered over 6,070 lbs of food, 426 Female Hygiene Kits, and 420 Male Hygiene Kits to the Airdrie Food Bank, Calgary Food Bank, and Chestermere Food Bank. Banff-Airdrie MP Blake Richards helped make the delivery here in Airdrie.

“Local food banks are vital resources in our communities to support those who need it,” said Richards“ I am pleased to help with this delivery, and I encourage everyone to chip-in what they can to their local food bank." Richards was extremely happy that the Airdrie Food Bank was chosen by GlobalMedic for the donation as the local need for their support has grown substantially since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, lots of people have looked to the food bank as jobs have been eliminated, hours cut and businesses shut down to curb the spread.

In addition to the 600 pounds of food they delivered like rice already pre-packaged for individual use, GlobalMedic also donated hygiene packages for both men and women. "When people are in need when they can't afford food, there are other things like hygiene items and toys as well, things like that, that those families need too and often they are forgotten. It was a good reminder to us all and I was so happy to be a part of it," says Richards. He also said Lori McRitchie executive director and the rest of the food bank staff were quite thrilled about being chosen to receive the donation.
