On February 8 and 9, the City of Airdrie will be handing out Eco Youth Awards to four local youth groups.

"The Eco Youth Awards gives teachers and community group leaders and their students recognition for their efforts on a wide range of environmental stewardship initiatives," said Tracy Pagenhardt with the City of Airdrie.

Pagenhardt said that the awards will allow the groups to implement existing or future environmentally focused projects. In order to receive the awards, the groups must meet a number of qualifications.

"They need to demonstrate a strong environmental message or a focus with an environmental concern, anything that strengthens the field of environmental education, what the impact on participants and community members would be, and how it addresses an environmental issue or concern."

Mayor Brown and others will meet with each group over the next two days to present the awards. More information about the winners will be available from the City of Airdrie on February 9.
