The City of Airdrie announced yesterday (July 20) that they have filled the final seat on the AMSQ Board.

Andre Aubut will join Dustin Fedun, Art Skow and Martin Durocher as the volunteer members of the board, while Mayor Peter Brown and Councillors Allan Hunter and Candice Kolson will represent City Council.

Aubut is a 26 year resident of Airdrie, and has 17 years of experience in commercial real estate under his belt. He's also volunteered in Airdrie with Rotary.

After being appointed, Aubut shared his reaction to being named to the board.

"I think it's a real honour. I'm really excited to be able to bring some real experience and knowledge about development and commercial real estate. Just to give back to the community I think is really important and I'm really excited for the opportunity."

When asked what motivated him to apply for the board, Aubut said he thinks it's important for citizens to be involved in their community, especially with such a contentious issue like downtown redevelopment.

"I think it's really important as citizens to get involved. We can sit on the side lines and judge everybody else and not contribute. I just thought it was really important."

Mayor Peter Brown said that Aubut's experience was one of the main reasons he was selected for the board.

"He's been, obviously, a long time resident but it's really his experience in the commercial real estate game that puts him at the top of the list. He's also a committed volunteer."

Mayor Brown said he is excited to work with all of the board members and is looking forward to their first meeting.
