A lone male walked into the Salvation Army Thrift Store located at 125 Main Street in Airdrie yesterday (August 4) and robbed a store employee with a weapon.

Constable Dan Martin says the incident happened around 4:00 pm.

“The man approached store staff, brandished a weapon, and demanded cash. The store staff quickly complied with the demand and handed over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect who then took off on foot.”

No one was injured during the theft.

Martin says the direction the suspect went wasn’t observed but the staff of the store were able to provide the RCMP with a fairly good description of the man.

“He’s described as 5’ 6” to 5’7” tall, 140 to 150 pounds in weight. He was wearing a green jacket with his hood up, black pants and white sunglasses. He had black hair with some greying and light grey facial hair.”

Martin couldn’t say if there were customers in the store at the time of the theft. He says the RCMP are aware of the type of weapon the man had in his possession but won’t release it at this time.

Martin says the investigation is an active one and RCMP have been canvassing local businesses in the area and anyone who may have been driving in the area of 125 Main Street around 4:00 pm yesterday.

“We’re looking for video footage, photographs, that type of thing. If anyone has any information or has some video, please contact the Airdrie RCMP.”
