Last weekend, dozens of golfers came out to Collicutt Siding Golf Course for the annual Hannah’s Hope Golf Tournament.

This year was the fourth year that the event has been held, and President of Hannah’s Hope Sarah Rivard said they built on the great success of the previous events.

“We raised over 21 thousand dollars. We just have a real loyal following of golfers that come out every year and word of mouth, they always bring new players and we try to make it really exciting. We raised so much money. Everyone kind of gives a little bit which makes a huge difference for us.”

Hannah’s Hope is a non-profit organization in Airdrie that’s dedicated to raising awareness for Angelman Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that limits verbal communication and motor skills.

Rivard says that one of the best parts of the golf tournament is when participants hear from a family that’s been impacted by their support.

“Every year we have a family speak at the golf tournament so the participants and the donors kind of know where their money is going and how they are changing the lives of direct families in Alberta.”

The work of Hannah’s Hope doesn’t end with a golf event as Rivard explains some of the other things they do throughout the year.

“We do PD days for professionals who are supporting children with complex communication needs and using AAC (Augmentative/Alternative Communication) devices. We support families as well who have Angelman Syndrome and then also families who have complex communication needs.”

Hannah’s Hope will also host a camp for Angelman Syndrome in Sundre this September.

More information on the organization can be found on their official website.
