It appears that Community Links' forced exodus from their building is going to last another week after debris was discovered in the HVAC system.

On January 24th Airdrie Fire was called to the building on Main Street and found smoke on the second floor.  They investigated further and found that the smoke came from a hydraulic oil reservoir in the elevator room that had overheated.

The organization initially indicated that it would only be closed for a few days.  Since then it's been one delay after another.  This latest setback came completely out of the blue, according to Community LInks Executive Director Brenda Hume.

"It was totally unexpected.," Hume says.  "Unfortunately when they had to replace all the ceiling tiles, because of the smoke damage, that caused all the debris up above the ceiling tiles to be disturbed so all of that has been coming through our HVAC system causing all of their hard work of cleaning to be redone again."

The new reopening date for the building is now Monday, March 11th and Hume is confident that date will happen.

Hume says despite the frustrations she is extremely grateful to the community for their understanding and to other organizations for their help and support.

"We have been so blessed with a lot of the community support.  A lot of the other agencies and groups have offered us additional space which has been amazing and we're very, very grateful for that.  It's difficult to mobilize 50 staff and over 50 programs but we seem to be managing very well and it's just a matter of ensuring that the community knows where we are, which is very important."
