Just a few days into the fall sitting of the House of Commons in Ottawa and already Banff-Airdrie MP Blake Richards is learning another new job.

Richards was appointed this week to be on the Standing Committee on Finance in the House of Commons.  He adds that role to his other recent appointment as Shadow Cabinet Minister for Small Business and Export Promotion.  Richards is busy as he's also the Shadow Cabinet Minister for Tourism.

Richards stated, "I am looking forward to being back on the Finance Committee and standing up for the best interests of Canadians.  I am hearing the same messages of concern from our constituents and businesses all of the time, that there is too much regulation and taxes are too high for families and small businesses to succeed."

The Finance Committee is responsible for reviewing all finance legislation and conducting pre-budget consultations.  Richards will also be tasked with scrutinizing the financial proposals that Finance Minister Bill Morneau brings forward.  That includes holding the Liberals to account for, what Richards calls, their failure to provide a timeline to Canadians on matters such as balancing the budget or providing estimates on how much a national carbon tax will cost Canadians.

"There are many important questions that Canadians are asking and the Liberal government has simply not provided any answers," says Richards.  "Canada's Conservatives will continue to hold the government to account and push the Liberals to be open and transparent to Canadians.
