The Animal Control Bylaw is being given it's second reading at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 6.

The City has been collecting the public's feedback at multiple locations throughout the year, including the Home and Garden Show, public engagement at off leash parks, Twitter, the City of Airdrie website and through email and posters at businesses.

Over 350 responses have been collected through these interactions, but the City welcomes anyone who would like to speak to any of the changes to participate in the meeting Tuesday night.

"I would really encourage people, if you are a pet owner and you want to see things that are included in this bylaw to come out so that we do capture what the community wants," said Mayor Peter Brown.

The initial Animal Control Bylaw was first introduced in January 2015 with a couple proposals that have recently been removed.

A maximum two metre leash length was proposed but has been revised to having dogs under control while on a lead.

For dogs in vehicles, initially it was stated that a dog’s muzzle would not be allowed to extend outside a window of a vehicle, but that has now been removed and reworded to say that a dog must be restrained enough to prevent interaction with the public.

At Tuesday nights reading there will also be a discussion on the addition of cats to the bylaw with a proposed fee for licensing and a maximum of 6 cats per household.
