We don't know yet when the Provincial Election will be called in Alberta but when it is, the United Conservative Party plans to be ready.

This weekend in Edmonton, party candidates will gather to talk strategy and get ready for an election that must be called before May 31st.  Airdrie UCP MLA Angela Pitt explains what it's all about.

"We are bringing together all of our candidates and campaign teams from across the province to rile up the troops, make sure everybody is really excited, and go through what it takes to run a campaign and what that looks like and just have everybody prepared and ready to go for whenever this election might be called."

Pitt says even without all candidates nominated, the UCP is ready for the election.  "We hope that the Premier would call this sooner rather than later.  We know that they're certainly campaigning right now on the taxpayer's dime and Albertans are, I think, very much looking forward to the call of this election."

Even though Pitt says the date the election will be called is anybody's guess, there is speculation that it just might be called quickly after the Legislature is called back for the speech from the throne.

"We are called back to session for throne speech on March 18th.  Premier Ed Stelmach previously had called a throne speech and then dropped the writ immediately after.  There's speculation that that's what Premier Notley is going to do on March 19th.  I have my fingers crossed and we'll see if that happens."

The weekend convention in Edmonton will include a rally and speech by UCP leader Jason Kenney on Saturday evening at 6:00 pm.  Pitt says she's looking forward to that event and in fact is anticipating the whole weekend.

"I mean getting like-minded people from across the province in one room together and talking about how to make this province a better place is certainly a room that I want to be in and I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and learning from others and just being part of the hope that I think election 2019 brings."
