The jobless rate in Alberta is at it's highest in 22 years.

According to a recent survey from Statistics Canada, unemployment hasn't been this high since 1994.

"There's more people out there looking for employment opportunities, and more people on the market as far as job search," said Tarina Dueck, Senior Manager of Prospect Human Services.

The results from the survey show that Alberta is ahead of Nova Scotia in terms of jobless residents for the first time.

A 0.7 per cent unemployment rate increase has left Alberta sitting at 8.6 per cent.

"There are employers that are still hiring; there seems to be a bit more part time positions available right now than full time positions," said Dueck.

She added that some of the industries still hiring include hospitality, general labour, and the service industry.
