Albertans can fish for free as part of Canada's National Fishing Week.

On July 9th and 10th, anglers of all ages can cast without needing a fishing licence.

National Fishing Week is supported by Catch Fishing, as well as Federal, Provincial and Territorial Governments.

Participants are encouraged to check for advisories, due to low river flows and high temperatures in parts of the province.

Although fishing licences will not be required, anglers must follow sportfishing regulations, and are encouraged to refer to the Alberta Guide to Sportfishing Regulations for more information.

Alberta has approximately 166 stocked water bodies for anglers to enjoy. They are frequently stocked with rainbow trout, brook trout, brown trout or cutthroat trout.

Airdronians can head out to Dewitt's Pond West of town, which was stocked with 600 Trout in April 2016.
