Alberta RCMP has released Labour Day long weekend statistics.

Alberta roads typically experience an increase in drivers during long weekends and last long weekend was no exception.

From August 31st until September 3rd there were 262 reported motor vehicle collisions (MVC) in Alberta which included four fatalities and 27 injuries.

Cpl. Richard Nowak says those statistics are down from the long weekend of 2017.

"We actually saw a significant decrease in motor vehicle collisions this long weekend and I believe part of it is because of our #TrafficSafety movement"

In 2017, speeding was believed to be a factor in at least one out of five fatal MVC's and impairment by alcohol or drugs was a factor in at least one out of three fatal collisions.
