Earlier this week, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met to discuss the situation with the TransMountain Pipeline.

Premier Notley spoke yesterday (September 6th) about the meeting saying that while no action has been taken by the Federal Government, they’re not ready to shut the door yet.

“I’m not prepared to say yay or nay to their efforts because they've not ultimately delivered a final answer to us in terms of what their actions will be. I’m giving them time to make the choice, to exercise the authority that they have to get this problem fixed.”

Prime Minister Trudeau recently said that his Government plans to appeal the decision by the Court of Appeals that rejected the pipeline’s approval.

The decision from the court led the Alberta Government to withdraw from the Federal Climate Change Plan, but will they ever return?

“Maybe, but there are no guarantees,” says Notley, “It comes down to certainty. We, on behalf of investors, our energy industry, on behalf of working people in Alberta, we need the certainty and the investment and the job creation that this has always been about.”

Notley says that the Prime Minister assured her that plans would be in place to move forward with construction in weeks, not months.

Still, Notley says they need to know for sure if this delayed project will ever go forward.

“Ultimately, what we need is a path that is credible, that is reliable to construction. A timeline for construction that we can be sure will work. That’s what we’re looking at and that’s what I’ve told the Prime Minister.”

Opposition leaders say that the Provincial and Federal Government’s are wasting time in getting this project underway.

UCP Leader Jason Kenney accuses Notley of continuing to stick with Trudeau instead of demanding that they immediately appeal.
