Apparently, Albertans love to camp and want to make online reservations to be sure they have a spot to do it in.

2018 was a record year for online reservations made through Reserve.AlbertaParks.ca (RAP), the campsite reservation system that was introduced in 2009.

Nearly 171,000 reservations were made through RAP, including 164,101 regular campsites, 3,251 group sites, and 3,638 comfort camping units.  That total exceeded the 2017 total of 163,780 reservations.

RAP was introduced to bolster tourism, help Albertans connect with nature and experience the provincial parks system.

This year, the Province of Alberta is investing $38 million to upgrade, expand and modernize Alberta's parks.

RAP has nearly 600,000 account users.  The system allows online bookings for 88 provincial campgrounds with the remainder being on a first come, first served basis.  You can also make reservations at 162 group campsites and 64 comfort camping units.

The opening dates in 2018 for the RAP system are:

  • February 4th for group camping
  • February 11th for comfort camping
  • February 19th for regular camping
  • February 25th for backcountry camping

All revenue generated from camping fees are invested back into Alberta Parks.
