Municipalities, communities, and eligible organizations may have access to $30 million over two years.

The money is meant for helping communities and municipalities complete projects they cannot fund on their own, as well as pay for locally developed projects to encourage long-term economic growth.

The money will be distributed in a couple of different ways:

  • $26.45 million will go towards communities, municipalities, and eligible organizations;
  • $2.2 million has been set aside for Regional Economic Development Alliances to upgrade existing initiatives;
  • $600,000 is going towards four Rural Alberta Business Centres for operations for 2016-2017;
  • $750,000 for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo to Fort McMurray recovery.

"Business and community leaders across the province helped us create the Alberta Jobs Plan. This new support will put homegrown projects and economic development plans into action and help ensure Alberta's cities and towns continue to be Canada's best places to do business," said Deron Bilous, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, in a press release.

Areas around Alberta can begin sending in their applications for the grants starting October 1st, with the deadline being November 30th.
