The Alberta Government is on a mission to feed 33,000 students this year.

The government is planning on expanding their school nutrition program with an allocated budget of $15.5 million.

Premier Rachel Notley announced the funding on Wednesday (September 26th) at a school in southeast Calgary.

The program that launched in 2016 had an original budget of $3.5 million. In 2017 the program fed approximately 21,000 students in 200 schools.

According to Notley schools are expected to offer at least one meal a day, breakfast or lunch to students who need it the most.
