Airdrie made the list for funding projects from the Alberta Budget yesterday (March 16th)

Finance Minister Joe Ceci is forecasting a deficit for the Province of $10.3 billion, but is still promising spending for schools, hospitals and transportation in the Alberta budget.

Ceci said the budget was meant to "make life easier for every day Albertans," with 24 new schools proposed in the budget plans.  An Airdrie school was included on the list, the Windsong K to 8 school.  Three others, the Cooper's Crossing Elementary School, the Heloise Lorimer School and the Heron's Crossing School are also on the government's list of 200 schools to be modernized.

In Cochrane, the Fireside K - 8 school and the Rancheview School are on the government list.

Other budget spending highlights include a new hospital to be built in Edmonton, a new long term care facility for Calgary, a new courthouse in Red Deer, a new interchange on the Deerfoot Trail in Calgary at 212th Avenue in the southeast, a promise of new, affordable housing spaces for the province, including 132 units in Banff, and a promise of a partnership with the Federal Government to bring clean drinking water to all indigenous communities in Alberta to help eliminate boil water advisories.

One project that didn't make the cut was one very close to the heart of Cochrane residents. The interchange upgrade at Highway 1 A and Highway 22 was on the government list of Unfunded Projects.
