Large crowds turned out yesterday (July 29) to the Springbank Airport for the bi-annual Wings Over Springbank Airshow.

Sarah Vangilst is the Chair of the volunteer committee that puts on the show.  She explained to Air 106.1 afternoon drive show host Madelon Kirov that the show used to be held in Airdrie.

"This is our second year at the Springbank Airport.  Previously the show was in Airdrie which started in 2009 and they held that show bi-annually for six years and then we moved it out here in 2015 just because of all the expansion work that was happening at the Calgary Airport."

The group that puts on the show is a not-for-profit society, so all proceeds are donated back to the community.  Local charities being supported this year include the Veteran's Food Bank, the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Society, the Springbank Air Cadets and Juvenile Diabetes.

The highlight this year is a performance by the Candian Forces Snowbirds, making four times they've appeared at the show.

Vangilst says the show is a favourite of pilots, partly because of the remarkable scenery.  "We have a great selection of pilots that we bring in from western Canada and the northern United States.  It is definitely a favourite because of our beautiful Rocky Mountain backdrop."

Wings Over Springbank runs again today from noon to 5:00 pm.
