A march to bring awareness to what organizer's call an "antiquated family law system" is being held Sunday (February 19) in Airdrie.

"Walk a Mile in His Boots" is being held to draw attention to the rights of fathers and society's attitudes about men in general.

Becky Kundert is one of the organizers of the march and says many families have fallen victim to a system that encourages parental alienation and unreasonable child support guidelines,

"Many of these men have to pay a significant portion of their income to support their children, and many of them find themselves homeless and unable to care for their children during their own time.  We feel this is a form of abuse toward men and is gender discrimination."

Kundert feels that men are often excellent parents.

"There are definitely situations where not every parent should be spending equal time with their children, but it should be assumed, right off the bat, that both parents get equal custody of the children and share equally the cost of raising those children."

In Kundert's opinion, society and culture play a role in formulating impressions of men as parents. "Dads are usually portrayed as bumbling idiots and losers in movies and TV shows. Back to school and other advertising are geared towards moms. This has to stop."

Families are invited to gather at 1:00 pm outside Airdrie City Hall and then march to Nose Creek Park.
