As Fort McMurray evacuees begin heading back up North, Airdrie Supports Fort Mac will begin closing their doors.

Using the old UFA site as their primary spot, the organization was able to help out many evacuees staying in Airdrie by providing them with furniture, food, and other much needed items.

Jenn Hansen, with Airdrie Supports Fort Mac, said some of the evacuees have decided to call Airdrie their new home.

"It's exciting that a lot of our families have gone home. We do have some that are staying a little bit longer and we do even have some that have moved to Airdrie permanently."

Hansen added that she has only lived in Airdrie since July 2015 and she is blown away by the community support she saw.

"To me, this is how I will also know Airdrie because I don't know it any differently. The community support is phenomenal."

The warehouse will be opening it's doors to the public on Monday, June 27, and Tuesday, June 28, from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm to clear out the remaining inventory before closing it's doors.

Despite the warehouse no longer being needed, the group's Facebook page will still be active due to some minor needs currently being met for some of the evacuees.

"Everybody that I have met from Fort McMurray are so inspiring to me. The strength that they have, the courage and the positive attitude that they had and they held the entire time. I, personally don't know if I could be that positive in that situation," said Hansen.
