This week, thousands of Airdrie students took part in Remembrance Day ceremonies as their way to honour those who fought for freedom.

Students laid wreaths, performed songs, read poetry and even shared personal stories from past relatives who served in the Second World War.

Local Grade 12 student Quinn says he takes these ceremonies very seriously.

"It's commemorating all the people that voluntarily sacrificed their lives for our freedom so that we could live life without fear."

Another local student, Maddy says it's very important for her and her friends to honour our soldiers.

"Remembrance Day is important to me because it honours those who fought for the rights and freedoms of the people of Canada and other countries around the world in times of terror and turmoil. To protect those who could not protect themselves. They gave us everything that we have today and for that we are eternally grateful."
