Yesterday (November 8th), competition began for several young ladies hoping to wear the crown of Miss Rodeo Canada.

Former Miss Pro Rodeo Airdrie, Emily Marston is in the competition, taking place during the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton.

Marston said she's spent quite some time getting ready for this event.

"I have been prepping for a very, very long time just when it comes to knowledge portion, clothing of course, my fashion and modeling walk and horsemanship. I'm pretty excited."

The competition includes many elements from a written test to horsemanship, public speaking and a fashion show.

Marston is also hoping for another big award, but needs some help to win it.

"The People's Choice Award is chosen by how many likes, shares and comments are on the contestant's photo on the Miss Rodeo Canada Facebook Page."

Of course, Marston is hoping for the big crown which will be presented to the lucky winner on November 10th. Marston would love nothing more than to bring it back to her hometown.

"Airdrie is great! and being able to go up and go to the Miss Rodeo Canada competition representing my hometown, where I grew up, where my family grew up. It just means that much more."
