It's being called Calgary's most ambitious LRT project in history.

Airdrie residents who work or travel into Calgary and use the LRT system will have their commute made a little easier as the City of Calgary is moving forward with the Green Line.

The Green Line will connect communities from 16th Avenue North through the downtown core to Shepard in the southeast.

The agreement between the City and the provincial and federal government has locked in three billion dollars in funding with equal portions to fall on provincial government and the federal government.

The funding is planned to flow over eight years to support the first stage of development.

According to a release provided by the Alberta government the project is expected to create more than 12,000 jobs and 8,000 additional jobs in supporting industries.
