Airdrie RCMP have a man in custody but are still looking for a female suspect in an early morning break and enter at a residence on the city's western outskirts.

Corporal Curtis Peters says at 6:00 am, Airdrie RCMP were called to a residence on Township Road 265 near Range Road 13 just west of the city, ro a complaint of a break and enter.

"The homeowner awoke to find two individuals in their residence.  When they were confronted by the homeowner, both suspects fled on foot.  Our officers, as well as a police service dog and some support from our Emergency Response Team, all attended and the police dog found a male suspect hiding in some trees and bushes not far from where the crime had occurred.  That individual has been taken into custody."

Peters says charges are pending against that suspect.  The RCMP are still looking for the second suspect in the incident.

"The female is described as being a white female with long hair and she was wearing a dark green coat and carrying a backpack at the time of the offence.  We're not sure at this time who she is or where she might have gone.  We're asking anyone who may have any information or may encounter a suspect fitting that description to give us a call."

Peters couldn't say if the woman got away with anything taken from the residence.

He says that while the incident was taking place, motorists and people in the area would have noticed an increased police presence along Range Road 13 in the area.

Anyone who has information which may help the police are asked to call Airdrie RCMP at 403 945-7200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-8477.
