An 18-year-old hockey player from Airdrie is in hospital in Saskatchewan after a horrific crash between the team's bus and a semi-truck left 14 people dead and 14 more injured last night north of Tisdale, Saskatchewan.

Ryan Strashnitzki of Airdrie was injured when the semi t-boned the Humboldt Broncos team bus 30 kilometres north of Tisdale while the club was on their way to a playoff game against the Nipawin Hawks.

Ryan's mother Michelle says her son is doing okay but can't feel his lower body at this time.  Ryan is expected to be airlifted to a Saskatoon hospital sometime today.

The team roster listed 24 players, 13 from Saskatchewan, 10 from Alberta and one from Manitoba.  There is no word yet on where the 14 killed in the crash are from.

Michelle Strashnitzki called the crash horrific and devastating saying the people on the bus were family.

The investigation into the collision is still in its very early stages.
