Google has released its annual Trending Search Terms list for 2016.

We hit the streets of Airdrie to see if residents could guess the number one trending search term in Canada this year.

"I'm gonna guess either the U.S. presidential election, or... ya, just that," answered one lady.

"Trump," another lady guessed emphatically.

Not surprisingly, Donald Trump did top the list this year. Those we talked to were more surprised by the second term on the list; Pokemon Go.

"No way, Pokemon Go? I'll never understand that," said one gentleman. Others simply laughed at the news.

The list released by Google shows which search terms saw the largest spike for a sustained period this year compared to 2015. The Toronto Raptors, the Fort McMurray fire, and Prince rounded out the top five in Canada.
