A new report has shown what many politicians in Alberta had feared.

The report shows that despite earlier claims from the Federal Liberals, the Government is expected to grab GST revenue from Alberta's Carbon Tax.

Banff-Airdrie MP Blake Richards and the rest of his Conservative colleagues aren't impressed with this reality

"We're talking probably into the billions of dollars that will be collected by Ottawa as a result of this tax grab. Clearly another example of the Federal Government sticking their hands in our pockets and taking our money."

The whole concept of charging a tax on a tax is greatly confusing, but Richards said it's possible and it's happening.

"You're being charged GST on top of that tax, so 5% of that tax again, is another tax, and the Federal Government will receive the revenue from that which is something that Justin Trudeau promised would not happen."

Although Alberta and BC are the only Provinces right now with a carbon levy, the Federal Government is looking at a nationwide tax, which will add more and more GST money to the Government

"4 or 5 years from now when the full top amount of this is in place, we're probably looking at somewhere in the neighbourhood of half a billion dollars a year or something like that going to Ottawa as a result of this."

The report has also been slammed by members of the Provincial Wildrose party.
