Airdronians mourn the loss of pilot, Jim Kruk, after his plane went down on Thursday evening near Kelowna, B.C.

The crash also claimed the lives of the three other occupants: former Premier, Jim Prentice, Calgary businessman, Sheldon Reid and Calgary Optometrist, Ken Gellatly.

62-year-old Kruk was a retired RCMP officer and was very involved with the Airdrie Air Cadets as the SSC advisor along with other commitments.

In a statement, his family said he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

"Jim was a professional's professional, meticulous and methodical in all his accomplishments. Jim was an avid aviator since 1976. After a full career and retirement from the RCMP, Jim pursued his true passion, aviation, which is only usurped by his dedication and love for his two sons, Grayden (19) and Ryland (17), and devotion to his loving wife, Darlene."

"We also thank friends and family for their ongoing support and prayers during this difficult period."

Many have also been turning to social media to share their condolences for all the families affected.

Capt. N. van Aalst posted the news on the 83 Juno Beach Royal Canadian Air Cadets Facebook Page, and shares a hope that "Jim has blue skies and tailwinds wherever he may be."

"Jim leaves behind a family with a great connection to the cadet program, and the Canadian Armed Forces and we are saddened along with our entire community."
