Yesterday (March 6) saw a joint press conference from Alberta's opposition party, including Airdrie MLA Angela Pitt, on the Province's growing opioid problem.

"Fentanyl has swept across our province, and is having a devastating result. A 2016 statistics demonstrate, this crisis in our province continues to grow," said Pitt.

Pitt was joined by Mike Ellis of the PC Party, Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark and Liberal Leader David Swann.

Pitt expressed an urgent desire for an emergency debate on the crisis.

"The fact is this crisis is bigger than partisan politics. If there's a solution on the table to stem the tide, Wildrose wants to help. We will be supporting the need for an emergency debate this afternoon, and we will continue to put forward common sense solutions."

The joint opposition parties expressed dissatisfaction with the Government of Alberta's response to the opioid situation, and called for the provincial government to declare a public health emergency.

Pitt said that if an emergency debate was held, the Wildrose party would contribute possible solutions, including more addiction care beds.
