Airdrie RCMP have arrested and charged a 49-year-old man from Airdrie after a robbery at Goldworks Sales and Service Inc. last week.

James Christopher Yanew was arrested after the Airdrie RCMP's General Investigation Section, Crime Reduction Unit, and General Duty officers conducted a search warrant at a property along East Lake Boulevard on August 30th.

At around 10:10 am last Tuesday (August 28), Airdrie RCMP were dispatched to Goldworks Sales and Service, located at 704 Main Street South.

A lone male had approached the stores front doors, pulling on them slightly, and walked away only to return a few moments later wearing a black mask.  He entered the business holding a knife.  Store staff noticed the man immediately and sounded an audible alarm which scared him off and he left on foot.

Yanew now faces two counts of robbery, one count of wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offense, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

He's been remanded into custody to appear in Provincial Court in Airdrie on September 6th, 2018.

The Media Relations Officer for the Airdrie RCMP, Constable Dan Martin, says the RCMP acknowledge the investigation was strengthened through the assistance and cooperation of the public, local businesses, and other community partners.  He says the Airdrie RCMP want to thank everyone who contributed to the investigation.
