The Airdrie Irish prove every summer and fall that they know football.

Today (December 1) the team is going to prove they know how to give back to the community by holding their first annual Toy Drive for the Airdrie Boys and Girls Club.

The Irish's Gunnar Godhe explains.  "We're going to have a little booth set up outside of City Hall during the Santa Parade today from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm just collecting anything that anybody wants to donate towards the Boys and Girls Club."

Godhe says they're looking for toys for toddlers through pre-teens as that's the group the Boys and Girls Club caters to.

Godhe says they came up with the idea for a Toy Drive as a way to be more involved in Airdrie.  "We just wanted to get a little bit more involved in the community and we figured this was a great way for us to get started out.  The City asked us to help out with volunteering to man the route of the parade as well so with doing that, getting some of our guys there, this is a good way for us to get started up and do something for the holidays."

Godhe says they just formulated the Toy Drive idea, so, at this point, this is the only collection they've got planned.  He says that the team may put up more information about future donation spots on their website.

So, when you go to the Santa Claus Parade, which starts at 5:00 pm on Main Street, take along a toy or two, and "hand them off" to a member of the Airdrie Irish.
