Airdrie's City Council heard from Michelle Bates, Chair of the Airdrie Health Foundation on Tuesday (February 20) afternoon, where she announced that the foundation will be funding two new programs this year.

The first program, Pregnancy and Beyond is an existing program that had lost its funding due to budget cuts but is now able to continue servicing vulnerable families in the community.

Pregnancy and Beyond work with women and children with financial challenges with support during and after pregnancy.  Support includes mental health challenges, parenting education, family violence and drug and alcohol support.

The second program is the Airdrie Mental Health Liaison Team for the RCMP and AHS.

AHF has approved $120,000 worth of funding over two years which will aid in mental health support. The funding will help reduce the wait time for individuals seeking support for mental illness.

Allan Hunter, Vice Chair of the Airdrie Health Foundation reiterated that 'Early intervention is the key!'

To continue funding new programs, the Airdrie Health Foundation will be hosting a number of events in 2018, including the Light Up The Night Gala in September.
