The Airdrie Fire Department and the Cochrane Fire Department will be meeting on the ice for a charity hockey game today at 2:00 pm at the Spray Lakes Family Sports Centre in Cochrane.

During the game, the local food bank will be taking money and food donations

Martin Medynski of the Airdrie Fire Department says they are excited to play the Cochrane team.

"We're pretty excited. We were invited by the Cochrane Fire Department to come and play on Family Day at 2 o'clock and we'll see which department has the better hockey team."

Medynski says Airdrie Fire will be bringing their best to face off against the rival team.

"We're only bringing our best from Airdrie to take on Cochrane. I think (...) right now we've got two solid lines but we might try and scrounge a few more players out."

Despite not playing for quite a while, Medynski says the rivalry still burns deep.

"It's been pretty heated in the past, but (...) it's been a couple years since we've gotten together and played against Cochrane, so it'll be interesting to see if some of that bad blood still lives. I know Airdrie Fire is coming off a big win we had back in (November) against the RCMP in Airdrie for our charity game. We're kind of on a hot streak and I think it will be a good game."

After defeating the RCMP and MEs in November of 2018, Medynski is hoping to increase their win-streak.

"We're looking to make it two. It's Family Day after all and we're hoping to get all the families and kids out. It's going to be a fun game, I think there (will be) a puck toss, maybe some prizes and stuff and it's free for anyone to come."

Ultimately, Medynski is confident in his team.

"I can't speculate too much, but I think Airdrie will probably take it. But, Cochrane has the home town advantage so it will be a good game."
