The City of Airdrie council met yesterday to discuss various proclamations as well as  to review the results of the Crime Reduction team (CRU) and Mental Health and Addictions team (MHALT).

Volunteer Airdrie came forward to appeal the council to recognize two days of respect: November 27 as GivingTuesday and December 3 as International Day of Disabled Persons.

GivingTuesday is the nationally recognized day of giving. Locals are encouraged to bless the less fortunate by giving to charities like the food bank.

International Day of Disabled Persons celebrates the achievements of those suffering from disabilities and will be holding more events come 2019.

The City Council was also presented with the results of the CRU team's findings. With a mission to work within Airdrie and surrounding Rocky View County, many crime reduction strategies were put into place, such as:

  • High Volume Vehicle Stops
  • Bait Vehicles
  • Undercover Operations
  • Surveillance
  • Overt Investigations
  • Warrant Round Up

The team was very successful with over 100 criminal charges from January to October. The City of Airdrie also saw reductions in Theft Under $5000 and Break and Enters.

Finally, the council was presented with the results of the MHALT team, which saw over 240 Direct Client Contacts and over 140 Collateral Contacts.
