The Airdrie Lioness Club has given a donation of $1,000 to the Airdrie Children's Festival to help support their growth.

Airdrie Children's Festival director Tara Levick said the Lioness Club had already supported them in the year before.

"The Lioness Club supported us last year with a smaller donation. They believed in the festival and wanted to be a part of it. This year, they connected with us and said they wanted to make another donation and we actually didn't know the value until we got to do the photo op. We're blown away with the support they're giving us this year."

This year, especially with the expansion the festival has planned, this donation goes a long way.

"It's huge. We run on a pretty lean budget and we've expanded the festival to two days this year, so we're really, really excited to be able to use their money to increase what we can do at the festival. They will be up there with some of our major sponsors cause it's a huge donation value of $1,000."

Levick explained that the donation will help the planned expansion.

"We are a festival only in our second year. It will run June 1st and 2nd this year. The main point of our festival is to be all-inclusive, free for all to attend. We just really want to spike curiosity and fun for children. We hope any kids coming to the festival leave possibly learning something, having fun and just a really unique experience right here in Airdrie."

"It will go right into the main cost of the festival. We have inflatables coming, we have performers (...) coming, we have inspiration stations and Zumba classes, anything you can think of, we've got it at the festival."

The Airdrie Children's Festival last year saw good attendance.

"I think it's exciting that we're only in our second year and we're already growing. We saw huge attendance last year with 3,500 people coming in our first year so we thought what better way to give people what they want. The two days aren't going to be identical so we feel people might even come back for the second day to see what else we have in store."

Levick said that they're lucky to have the support of the club and the community.

"It's amazing honestly. We're pretty fortunate here in Airdrie to have such a great community and community backing when initiatives like this start. We couldn't be more excited and proud that they chose us."
