The Airdrie Block Parent Program will be celebrating it's one year anniversary on September 23.

The program, which is still trying to gain traction, currently has 42 homes signed up with signs in the window and 5 volunteers who are working within each community to build awareness.

Lindsey Coyle, Chairman of the Airdrie Block Parent Program, said they are still trying to get the word out.

"We need volunteers to help us with that roll out so that we can actually get people helping us with doing reference checks and getting into the schools, and having booths at farmers markets and things like that."

Coyle said it will take at least 100 homes signed up for the program to increase the volunteer base to a minimum of 10 per cent.

Due to a lack of awareness among school-aged kids, the program has not had any children seek assistance from a block parent.

For her own generation, Coyle said the block parent program was well know but our current generation is only just being introduced to it.

To increase the awareness among school aged children, Coyle is looking to participate in school library fairs and parent teacher conferences to allow parents and children to ask questions about the program.

There is a cost associated with getting the word out there and Coyle is determine to find sponsorship to help alleviate that burden.
