A local charity was just awarded a substantial amount money.

Airdrie Angel was the lucky recipient of a $10,000 donation from the '100 Airdrie Men Who Give A Damn' on Tuesday evening (January 22). The Airdrie 100 meet four times a year, where each member puts $100 towards a total that is awarded to a local charity that could use financial aid.

Michelle Carre, co-founder of Airdrie Angel, explains that her charity helps those in our community who are in need by giving care packages and connecting them with services.

"The whole goal of the program is to lift the spirits of someone in our community that is going through a difficult time at no fault of their own," says Carre. "Sometimes our recipients are facing financial challenges, sometimes they're medical challenges, or sometimes it's been a medical accident or something that's happened that's completely turned their lives upside down."

Airdrie Angel puts together packages that are customized for each recipient. The packages include giftcards such as gas or grocery, and every recipient also receives cash.

Carre explains how the $10,000 will be used to help the charity.

"The money will go a long way in helping people right here in Airdrie. Some of the funds will be used to purchase giftcards or for the cash component for their package."

She also points out that in a city of 70,000 people, not everyone knows that Airdrie Angels exists. The money will help bring awareness to the charity and in turn, help more people.

Carre says that her husband and herself are extremely grateful for the generous donations they received from the Airdrie 100.

"They [Airdrie 100] are doing amazing things in our community because when you put many people together with a hundred dollars and you can build up ten thousand in just one night, that's just so amazing. We're grateful to the crew that put on these events and organizes this committee and to all the men that have said 'Ya, we want to be a part of this'. It means a lot."

Airdrie Angel will be holding its annual Daddy Daughter Hair Day Fundraiser in June on the Saturday of Father's Day weekend.
