Once again the smoke from nearby wildfires is leading to poor air quality for Airdrie.

Early this morning (September 8th) Environment Canada issued a special air quality statement for Airdrie and surrounding areas.

Nearby communities including Crossfield, Carstairs and Didsbury are also under the advisory.

According to Alberta Environment and Parks, the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) was forecasted to hit 6, which is in the moderate risk category.

However, as of 9:30 this morning, the index hit 7, which is high risk.
