Alberta Health Services is asking anyone planning on using ATVs or off-road vehicles this weekend to remain sober.

According to AHS an average of 14 people die each year in ATV incidents.

Between 2002 and 2013 more than half of the fatalities that occurred while using an ATV had alcohol as a factor.

AHS also says that every year 600 people in Alberta are admitted to the hospital due to crashes involving off-road vehicles.

ATV users are being urged to use the following precautions when riding an ATV. While using an ATV, remain sober at all times, impaired driving laws are the same for ATVs as they are for motorized vehicles and be sure to have the proper gear such as a CSA approved helmet and always have a first aid kit close by.

AHS also asks that you take the steps to get training so you can operate the vehicle safely.
