After some setbacks, the new Nose Creek Park amphitheatre will not wrap up construction by the end of July as originally hoped.

"Unfortunately, the contractors had a little bit of challenges with some site issues, so they are running a little behind schedule," said Chris Reason with the City of Airdrie, "However they're expecting to be completed on August the 10th."

The project was originally meant to be finished by the end of July, with refilling of the pond starting in the middle of the month. Reason said delays won't let that happen, but they're only a few days behind schedule and it should be smooth sailing from here on out.

"We had some challenges with the structural steel and some design. That's all been rectified and engineers are all approved and everything is all on track now."

Recent extreme weather and strong winds only added to the delays.

Reason said they will begin refilling the pond soon. He was unable to say exactly how long it would take, as it's been a number of years since the pond has been refilled from empty.

"We're starting next week filling. It will be filled by the time the project is finished."
