The last couple of weeks have brought some severe weather to Airdrie, but is it bigger this time than last year?

According to Dan Kulak from Environment Canada, between June 14th and July 15th, not much has changed in the last couple years.

"For severe thunderstorm warnings, in 2016 there was 6 and in 2017 there was 7 so almost identical statistically. For Tornado warnings, last year from basically the middle of June throug the middle of July, no tornado warnings for the City of Airdrie whereas this year we've had one."

Kulak only spoke on the stats for Airdrie specifically and not on the outside communities which have also seen significant activity and warnings.

Each year's thunderstorm season can be different, but regardless Kulak says you should be prepared.

"I think in general, think about thunderstorm season, the time of year when we get all these things. Some years you're going to hear more on the radio, some years you're going to hear less on the radio."
