June marks the ninth month of the Muslim calendar, and the month in which the Quran was revealed (as per the Muslim faith).

The month is spent fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset but also requires those who practice to give back to local charities.

"Fasting is one of the obligations of the Muslim and their faith but then again I know for anything as in life, there are some relaxations." said Sultan Mahmood of the Amidiyaa Muslim Jama'at.

This year, the practice of Ramadan will open its doors to the non-Muslim community, as a group of local muslims are opening their doors to teach others of their religion.

The Fast With a Muslim Friend campaign is gaining momentum across the country, and aims to build relationships between cultures.

"The purpose is not that somebody should be fasting, the purpose is just to get the non-Muslims connected to the Muslim families and develop a relationship." said Mahmood.
