A special lady celebrated a very unique birthday yesterday (Saturday) in Airdrie.

Dora Baran was joined by her family and many friends, including Airdrie mayor Peter Brown, to celebrate her 100th birthday at her retirement home, the Hamlets at Cedarwod Station in Airdrie. When Dora was asked about her secret for longevity, she sort of shrugs off the question.

"There's nothing to it.  I've had sorrows, I've lost my husband and I've lost grandchildren, but I've had to take what I get.  I will say that being 100 is just like being 65 and getting my first pension cheque.  I don't feel any different."

Dora's birthday was actually on April 25th.  She was born in 1917 at St. Breux, Saskatchewan where she married and had three boys.  She was a stay-at-home mom most of her life, taking care of her husband and family.  Dora moved to Ogema, Saskatchewan in 1959 and lived there until her move to Airdrie in 1975.  She has been at Cedarwood Station for the past ten years.

Dora says her birthday celebration was one she hopes to remember for some time.  "It'll be a memory I hope to carry for at least another ten years."
