Like it or not, some gas prices in Airdrie took a big jump overnight to their highest prices so far in January.

Some stations in the city hiked prices by 12 cents to sit at 118.9 cents a litre, which is well above the provincial average of 109 cents.

Thankfully, many stations in Airdrie haven't made the switch as they're still sitting around 106 cents a litre.

The big jump is a bit of a surprise to some petroleum experts who believed prices would continue to drop as a result of less demand in US refineries.
