Airdrie seems to have a lot of firsts and yesterday (November 25) marked another one as a unique business threw open it's doors.

Fitzsimmons Brewing Co., Airdrie's very first craft brewery, held it's Grand Opening at its location on East Lake Boulevard.  MLA Angela Pitt, dignitaries from the City of Airdrie and other guests were on hand to see the ribbon being cut and for a tour of the new facility.

Pamela Jarosz and Cody Fitzsimmons are the co-owners of the business and are both very excited to call Airdrie home.

Jarosz says it was important to them to be the first brewery in Airdrie.  "Two years ago, the very first call we made was  to the Airdrie Economic Development department to ask, 'is there any other breweries in production and will we be the first?'  Every time a rumour came up I'd touch base with them and say, 'are we still the first?' and they'd come back with 'yes.'  Yeah, we're excited about that."

Jarosz says she and Fitzsimmons started to pursue the idea really seriously two years ago.  "It was only this past June that we found the location and started the build-out.  Fast forward and it's been about six months from there."

Cody Fitzsimmons can't say enough about the new home for the brewery in Airdrie.  "We love Airdrie, we wanted to be a part of Airdrie.  The sense of community out here is what attracted us to opening the brewery in Airdrie.  We want to continue that and build it.  There's so many great restaurants and places to go, things to do.  Airdrie is fantastic."

Fitzsimmons Brewing Co. is open Tuesday thru Sunday.  Weekdays the tap room is open 3:00 - 8:00 pm and 12:00 - 8:00 pm on Saturday and 12:00 - 5:00 pm on Sunday.
