The City Of Airdrie and Fortis Alberta Partnered to award students in Airdrie for their contributions towards environmental stewardship initiatives.

Three submissions were received in 2017 for the Eco Youth Program. Two of the submissions were received from two grade four classes at separate schools, with the other submission coming from a sole student. There was a total of three-thousand dollars in funding available for the award, 1500 has been donated by Fortis Alberta and 1500 will be donated from the Waste & Recycling Services Budget.

A.E Bowers Elementary school's project includes revitalizing old planters throughout the school in hopes to grow herbs and vegetables. The growth of herbs and vegetables will improve air quality in the school. The students plan on donating the herbs and vegetables grown to the school breakfast club or have a lunch with the food they have grown. The school will be purchasing a large scale miracle-gro aero-garden as well as growing lamps. The team has sourced a company willing to give them wholesale pricing as well as a private donor who is willing to help the school set up the garden in the school.

Our Lady Queen Of Peace was one of the other recipients of the award. Their grade four class was awarded 1000 dollars to put towards their project. The project includes an expansion of their already in effect  Pack It In, Take It Out program. The Grade Four class will also review what composting is and review how to recycle and compost with other grades in the school. Funding provided by the ECO Youth Award will be put towards purchasing additional waste, recycling and compost bins for the student lunchroom and classrooms

The Final recipient of the ECO Youth award goes to  Brooklyn Chadwick. Brooklyn received 500 dollars to put towards her initiative of adding additional recycling bins throughout her school, Our Lady Queen Of Peace.
